Didem SeyisDidem Seyis | Research Fellow

Didem Seyis is a second year PhD student in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. She completed her undergraduate studies in the same department with high distinction. She spent one semester as an Erasmus student at Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. She received her Masters degree in International Relations from Koç University with a thesis elaborating on the contemporary changes in the Turkish primary education system. During her master studies, she worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at Koç University. She was also a research assistant for a TUBITAK-funded project titled Global Inequalities and Citizenship: Citizenship Practices on the Example of Individuals in Possession of American Passports in Turkey. She was the coordinator of The Turkish-Armenian Peace Initiative project executed by Koç University Social Impact Forum. In addition to her position at PS:EUROPE, she is currently working for a joint research project conducted by Boğaziçi University, Koç University and Hacettepe University named Voting Behavior of Euro-Turks and Turkey’s Parliamentary Elections 2015. Her research interests are Political Sociology, Identity Politics, Political Islam, Religious Communities, and Migration Studies. She speaks English and French. She is among founding members of PS:EUROPE.

Gülçin KarabağGülçin KarabağResearch Fellow

She majored in Political Science and International Relations as an undergraduate at Yildiz Technical University. She was at Germany-University of Bonn for Erasmus programme at fall semester of 2008-2009. She served as a research assistant in International Relations at University of Tunceli between 2012 and 2017. She took part as a researcher in a Tübitak 1001 project, which is titled “Political Party Organizations and Youth Sections in Turkey”. She took her MA degree in the department of Political Science and International Relations at Yildiz Technical University. The title of her master thesis is “TÖB-DER, The Association of All Teachers Unity and Solidarity and Left Politics”. She is a phd candidate at Ankara University, Faculty of Politics. She is working as a tutor in ACEV (Mother, Child Education Foundation). Her academical research interests are: Relations between labour and capital at neoliberal capitalist era, the history of left politics in Turkey, political sociology, women labour, borderlands studies, the Middle East and Kurdish studies.

Tuğçe Erçetin | Research Fellow

Third year PhD student in Political Science Istanbul Bilgi University. She received her Masters degree in Political Science from University of Essex with a thesis examining the Perceptions of Armenian People in Turkey. Also, she completed her second Masters Degree in International Relations department with a thesis focusing on Analysis of Turkish Nationalist Poemswhich are Written by Ordinary People During the Cold War. She completed her undergraduate studies in the same department  at Kadir Has University completing high honour award In addition to her research fellow position at PS: Europe She is also  currently working as a project assistant in Bilgi University project related with Otherization. She was author for the website of Posta Newspaper collecting real stories from minority groups and writing about political agenda of Turkey. Her research interests are: Populism, Conflict and Peace, Identity Politics, Political Psychology, Nationalism and Minority Studies. She speaks English and Turkish (native language).

 Pınar Bilgiç | Research Fellow

Pınar Bilgiç completed her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in her hometown Ankara in 2010. After graduation, she worked as project architect and project coordinator architect in private sector for two years. Following that, she worked as a civil servant supervisor architect at the Municipality of Yenimahalle-Ankara, Directorate of Zoning and Urbanization for another two years, where she was in charge of control and approval of architectural projects according to the valid plans, laws, and building codes. As her experiences in the highly politicized environment of the public sector have broadened her perspective on architecture, her academic and practical interests shifted towards urban and regional governance. In 2014, she suspended her position at the local government and her M.Sc. studies at Middle East Technical University’s Chair of Building Sciences upon being awarded a European Commission scholarship for the Master’s program Mundus Urbano-International Cooperation in Urban Development and she completed the program in 2016. After her mandatory internship at the Regional Authority Frankfurt Rhine/Main in 2016 and her external contribution on the new land-use planning concept of the region Frankfurt Rhine/Main, she has started her doctorate studies at Darmstadt University of Technology by May 2017. Her research focuses on the urban transformations in the region and the growing conflict between meeting the housing demand and protecting urban green spaces. Through an analysis of the resilience of urban green spaces under the impact of urban transformations, Pınar’s main motivation is to proactively connect academic discourses with practice.

 Uğur Tabak Research Fellow

Uğur Tabak received his B.A. degree in Law from Marmara University in 2013. Until 2016 he worked as a lawyer registered to Istanbul Bar Association und attended a master’s degree program in Human Rights Law at Istanbul Bilgi University. In 2016, he started to work as research assistant in the Faculty of Law at Gaziantep University and received his master’s degree from the same university with his thesis titled ”The Right to Free Election in Turkey’’. Uğur Tabak is currently working as research assistant in the Faculty of Law at Marmara University, where he is also a PhD student. He is among the founding authors of İkarus Dergi, a magazine that has reported news and published articles on human rights since 2012. His research interests include international human rights law and constitutional law.

 Bengi Süllü Research Fellow

She received her B.A. degree in Sociology from Bogazici University in 2014 and her M.Sc. degree in Urban Studies from the University College London in 2015, with her master’s dissertation entitled “Geographies of Children’s Play in the Context of Neoliberal Restructuring in Istanbul”. As a student, she did her internship at the Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) and volunteered for NGOs aiming to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She worked on social impact analysis of a project as a sustainability consultant. She started the Ph.D. programme in Sociology at the Middle East Technical University in October 2016. Since November 2016, she works at İstasyon – TED University Center for Social Innovation as project coordinator. Her research interests include urban geography and sociology, participatory planning, sustainable development and social impact measurement.
